Stitches, Birthday and a Move
August 10, 1998

Dear Fellow Parents and Friends of the Heart,

The last few days have been quite crazy and hectic for me. First of all, Alexander hurt himself the other night and needed stitches. My husband is a nurse and had just read about the danger of certain anestestias when a person is on Digoxin so he was very concerned.

After Frank briefly explained Alex's history, the doctor decided to just use a local. I told him that even though Alex is young, he has a lot of experience with doctors and is an obedient patient. He agreed to let me sit on the bed with Alex and hold him while he stitched up his hand. Alexander was so brave. I was so incredibly proud of him. I thought I was going to start crying when I saw the big needle the doctor used to numb his hand! Alex cried a little, but he listened to me as I talked to him and he answered my questions. Then we counted together as the doctor put first one, and then another stitch in place.

Tomorrow is Alexander's fourth birthday. It doesn't seem possible that so much time has gone by. When I read your posts I remember everything that happened to Alexander so vividly that it seems like it happened only yesterday.

We will be celebrating Alexander's and Joseph's birthdays on August 13th at my sister's house. It will be an X-Men birthday party and the boys are soooo excited! Joseph will be seven years old on the 14th. There will be pizza, cake, ice cream and a pinata!

Frank will take Joey and I will take Alex and we will part ways after the party. Joey and Frank will travel via moving van to Florida. Frank told Joey they could stop at McDonald's on the way to Florida. Joey told my sister, Chrissy, that they were stopping at EVERY McDonald's on the way! LOL I don't think that's what Frank had in mind. I'm curious, though, to see how many they hit before arriving at Panama City Beach.

Meanwhile, Alex and I will spend a couple of extra days at my sister's house with our family before boarding the train. This will be Alexander's first time to ride a train and he is so excited. It will be a long trip, but I think it will be neat for us to have some special time alone. I'm actually looking forward to it. I wish all of you a happy end of the summer. I hope all of the little ones out there continue to do well and amaze their doctors. You will all be in my prayers.

Take care!

Sincerely,

Anna Jaworski
mom to Joey (almost 7!) and Alex (almost 4!) HLHS
