Anna'a Favorite Five Heart Information Sites
CongenitalHeartDefects.com
This is a site Sue Dove and I created in order to gather as much
pertinent information and resources as we could find for the CHD community.
There is a lot of information on the Internet. We tried to make this site into
a clearinghouse of information for those interested in learning more about
CHDs.
CHDQUILTHOME
This wonderful CHD awareness project is a way to honor our children and
adults born with congenital heart defects in a very special way. This is
where you can read about how the project got started and order your own quilt
block. To actually see the quilts and some of the quilt block stories, go to
CHD Quilt
.
Mayo Clinic Slide show: Common types of congenital heart defects
This is a helpful, colorful slide presentation
of Common Types of Congenital Heart Defects. The only problem I see
with this site is that you cannot search for a particular defect.
Instead, you just have to go slide-by-slide through the presentation.
The good thing is that the slides have helpful, but not overwhelming,
information on them and most have nice color diagrams to pinpoint what
makes that heart defect special.
Experience Journal: Pediatric Heart Disease
As a writer, I applaud how the Boston Children's
Hospital encourages parents, children, professionals and family members to
share their experiences and feelings with one another in this online journal.
This is a wonderful, healing concept.
PubMed
This is the best free medical library I have found on
the Internet. I use it all of the time to do research. These articles are
written for medical professionals and give a lot of techincal information
which may be overwhelming for parents just learning about certain heart
defects.
